MARCH 2026 John of the Cross Events in Ireland: (dates not listed, to be confirmed soon, and all bookings should be done through the venue Avila Carmelite Centre Dublin)

Contemplative Theatre & Candlelit Meditation on John’ Poetry with Spanish Guitar.     

A compelling insight into the relationship of Jesus  with his father - John  Chapter 17. Creatively praying this Scripture with John of the Cross.  

Journeying with John’s inspirational drawing of the Cross & Cauterising our wounds with Jesus’ healing living flame.

Retreat Day on The Living Flame of Love. Saturday 28th March, 10.30am – 4pm.

Please bring a packed lunch, tea and coffee will be provided. Coffee from 10am, then start at 10.30am, until 4.30pm.

THE ART OF LISTENING | Friday 25th  September 6.30-9pm  

We will explore the art of listening through the wisdom of theatre, counselling techniques and the wisdom of our own bodies which can carry tension, stress, memory, other’s pain – we can learn from the body’s wisdom by becoming aware of what the body holds and the deeper knowledge it can offer. Participants do not need to have any training / experience in any of these approaches – just a willingness to become better listeners, in order to be able to better listen to God, to each other and to our own selves and benefit our lives and those we encounter. Because of the nature of the topic explored, on this event, participants will be asked to join in with discussion and work with others. 

THE PROBLEM OF EVIL AND SUFFERING | This issue has caused many to question their faith. We explore this from various angles in order to think the whole subject through, understand various approaches and see how this does not need to be an obstacle to faith.

RESURRECTION ANGEL | Sitting on the tomb’s stone, playing a banjo, laughter in her eyes... we explore the joy and humour in a Resurrection Gospel text and create our own resurrection angel.

Sat 17th October 2-5 pm

THE ABSENCE OF GOD | What is happening if we feel God is absent? Negotiating our way through this - for our own faith and also to help others going through this experience.

Tues 27th October 6.30-9pm

INTRODUCTION TO THE ENNEAGRAM | Christian faith calls for self-knowledge; this tool, based on ancient wisdom, can be a superb way to know ourselves better.

Thursday 29th October 6.30-9pm

The Interior Castle - explore the 7 dwelling places of prayer of St Teresa of Avila's pioneering work. This course / retreat includes 6 weekly sessions, all on Tuesdays from 6.30 to 9pm: November 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, December 1st, 8th Participants must attend all 6 sessions. Cost £100.

When we enter Advent in November, in the Celtic Christian tradition of these islands, Advent was seen as a lesser Lent. In light of lock-downs and social distancing, why not use the opportunity to see the beautiful season of Advent as a time of waiting, going into one’s inner cave of the heart, contemplation, inner spiritual work and prayer?
