(IN SITU) JOURNEYING ON A LEAF | Retreat Day on the Cornish Saint Ia

12-04-24 10:30 am -4:00 pm
£50.00

Journeying on a Leaf: Retreat day on the Cornish Saint Ia

11am-4pm (10.30-11am Coffee) April 12th 2024  Location: Chacewater Village Hall, Church Hill, Chacewater, Truro, Cornwall TR48PZ

There is free parking at the venue.

Saint Ia of Cornwall literally missed the boat when her companions left Ireland, heading for Hayle in Cornwall. Fearing crossing the sea alone, she prayed and saw a small leaf floating on the water. She watched it and it grew larger and larger. She trusted God, the leaf became her coracle and carried her across the ocean.

Ia’s story will be the creative ground from which to draw from in order to deepen your own spirituality. Using guided imaginative prayer, you will explore the journey of surrender, solitude, the leafy coracle and the wild elemental ocean, wind and sky. Her incredible odyssey across the sea will also offer beautiful material for your own creative writing. You'll be able to explore the idea of ‘journeying with nature’ through contemplation and art; working with an artist, you will have the opportunity to work with leaves and create patterns in clay - your work will be later fired in a kiln and sent to you as a beautiful reminder of the day and your own creativity. And slowing down and walking mindfully, you'll enter a leaf labyrinth, relaxing into a slow walking prayer on your journey to the Centre, to God...

All are welcome and no writing or art experience is needed.

A Call to Older People - to see this stage of life as a beautiful gift for our churches...

01-05-24 - 31-05-24
£200.00

In the month of May 2024, (the month of Pentecost), is an exciting and unique opportunity for individuals, church leaders and church communities to host a retreat day for their older people - to enable them to see this stage of their lives as a rich and vibrant gift for our churches. We will take Peter's lead, who at Pentecost, quoted the prophet Joel: 'I will pour out my Spirit on all people - your old men and women will dream dreams..'

What is the Spirit dreaming in older people? This question will be explored. We'll use creative writing to dream visions of hope. We'll explore how older people can be pioneers of deep and creative prayer for their churches and for the world. Compelling elderly figures of Scripture will be our guides - Anna, Simeon, Abraham, Sarah. We'll seek to be in the flow of Scripture that offers beautiful callings to older people.

The Retreat Days will include presentation, prayer methods, stillness, discussion, creative writing, a dramatic theatre piece etc.

Participants: anyone is welcome, but ideally for the over 60 year olds.

Times: 10.30-11am Coffee, then 11am - 4pm (including a lunch break - participants should bring their own packed lunches)

Please contact the leader of the days, Donna Worthington, if you want to host such a day for your older people. Choose any day in the month of May - there are limited number of days available, so it will be a matter of first come first served!

Total cost - £200. Venues may choose to charge individuals to cover this cost.
