SUMMARY:(IN SITU) EXPLORING SCRIPTURE
DESCRIPTION:FEBRUARY 2027 at Avila Carmelite Centre\, Dublin.
 (IN SITU) E
xploring Scripture…An invitation to renew our relationship with God thro
ugh the Living Word. The great Carmelite saints\, St Teresa of Avila and S
t John of the Cross\, did not simply read Scripture - they breathed it. Th
e words of the Gospel ran through their lives and prayer. These four retre
at days invite you to follow their example. We will pray with Scripture in
a fresh\, creative and contemplative way.The days will each focus on one
of the following compelling biblical texts: The Book of Ruth\, The Woman a
t the Well\, The Book of Jonah and The Healing of Legion.
 Every retreat
has been uniquely prepared to help us enter the world of Scripture through
a rich variety of approaches\; 3 of the 4 retreats include short dramatic
performances that bring the biblical narratives to life\, all retreats in
 clude reflective spiritual discussion\, music\, silence\, prayer\, creativ
e ways of exploring the Bible etc.St Teresa reminds us that the words of C
hrist are not merely ideas to be understood but \"acts wrought within us.\
" Hopefully\, these retreats will allow Scripture not simply to inform us
but to become more real for us. Whether you are new to praying with Script
ure or have journeyed with it for many years\, you are warmly invited to j
oin these February retreats. Seek to discover anew the power of God's Livi
ng Word to renew\, challenge\, heal and inspire.

 THE BOOK OF RUTH
DAY - Based on an incredibly strong woman\, the book of Ruth is a tre
asure chest of gifts. We will dive deep into the text\, and swim in its fa
scinating symbolism. A creative one-woman short theatre piece ‘The Red T
hread’ will be presented\; this will creatively bring us into the roles
key woman played in the salvation story. There will be an opportunity for
discussion and a beautiful space to reflect on themes and soul-questions.
We will approach this crucial text attentively and prayerfully.

 Wednesday 10th February 2027 10am Coffee\, 10.30am start\, finishes at 4pm
 . Cost 30 euros.

THE WOMAN AT THE WELL DAY - An invitation to jou
rney to the well\, to Christ the Living Water. At Jacob’s well\, Jesus b
roke strict rules of his time in order to reach a woman who was struggling
with past relationships\, exclusion and isolation\; he listened to her in
  a non-judgmental way\, saw her huge potential and she was transformed\, f
inding her own confidence and her own voice. We will explore this intrigui
ng Gospel passage\, which helps to illuminate our inner soul journeys and
offers an invitation to walk to the ‘well’\, to Christ the One who res
tores us. The day will include a short theatre piece\, presentation\, disc
 ussion\, imaginative guided prayer etc.

 Saturday 13th February 202
 7 10am coffee\, 10.30am start\, finishes at 4pm. Mass at 12pm. Cost 30 eur
 os.

IN THE BELLY OF THE WHALE: A DAY RETREAT ON SPIRITUAL TRANSFOR
MATION - Jonah’s descent into the belly of the whale is an ancient\, in
spirational story. A compelling tool for spiritual transformation\, explor
ing soul questions\, considering what descent into death and resurrection
into new life could mean\, and the call to experience of a God of compassi
on without limits.  In this creative retreat\, we will experience visual
imagery\, discussion\, a mindful labyrinth prayer walk and reflection to
 explore the story of Jonah.
 Sunday 14th February 2027 10am Coffee\, 10.3
0am start. Finishes at 4pm. Mass at 11.30am. Cost 30 euros.

 THE HE
ALING OF LEGION (Mark 5: 1-20) DAY - In Mark’s Gospel\, emerges an incre
dible text. It’s a glimpse of a possessed man isolated\, harming himself
\, violent\, and living among the haunting landscape of tombs\; the Greek
word for ‘tomb’ can also mean ‘memory’. Modern understandings of t
his character called ‘Legion’ would probably see him as suffering from
PTSD. Then the brave\, discerning\, healer Christ crosses the sea to face
the man’s belligerent demons… and later\, the villagers are amazed at
the man’s transformation. This encounter of such hope will provide a po
tent space in which to invite Christ into our chaos\; the calm\, knowing
and healing Christ who sits down beside us\, listens and offers us freedom
 .
 Saturday 20th February 2027 10am Coffee\, 10.30am start\, finishes at
 4pm. Mass at 12pm. Cost 30 euros.

Tea and coffee will be provided a
t all 4 retreats. Free parking available. Please bring packed lunches. 10a
 m coffee\, then start at 10.30am\, finish at 4pm.

 Sunday 22nd Augus
t: MARTHA | Martha is a remarkable figure: a woman who welcomes Jesus\, se
rves him\, questions him honestly\, grieves deeply\, and yet comes to a pr
ofound confession of faith. She is there when Jesus raises Lazarus from th
e dead\, and it is to Martha that Jesus says\, “I am the resurrection an
d the life”\, before asking her\, “Do you believe this?” Her answer
 reveals a true disciple: “Yes\, Lord\, I believe…” Martha is honest
enough to challenge Jesus\, and faithful enough to keep trusting him. In J
ohn’s Gospel\, she is\, at one point\, described as one who serves at a
meal given in Jesus’ honour. Jesus’ words in John 12:26 speak directly
into this vocation: “My Father will honour the one who serves me.” Th
is retreat will explore the Gospel portrayal of Martha. Through a theatre
 piece\, discussion\, poetry\, quietness\, prayer and presentation\, we wil
l reflect on the compelling woman Martha\, with a little help from Teresa
of Avila and Meister Eckhart\; we’ll gently let our own work and servant
hood be honoured\; and we’ll be aware of the need to affirm a spirituali
ty of servanthood which Jesus himself embodies and models for us.
 Cost 3
 0 euros. 10am coffee\, 10.30am start\, finish at 4pm.
 Mass at 11.30am.

Wednesday 25th August: EXPLORING THE SPIRITUALITY OF THE DESERT MOT
HERS | This retreat will offer windows into the compelling spirituality o
f the Desert Mothers of the early centuries.  We will explore the faith\,
prayer and lives of these incredible Christian women\, deep disciples of
Christ\, who journeyed into the wilderness\, lived alone or in community\,
battled with their demons and yearned to put on the mind and heart of Chr
ist. The retreat will include presentation\, quiet reflective time\, praye
 r\, silence\, opportunity for discussion\, music\, images etc.
 Cost 3
 0 euros. 10am coffee\, 10.30am start\, finish at 4pm.

 Saturday 28t
h August: EXPLORING THE SPIRITUALITY OF THE DESERT FATHERS | The Desert Fa
thers and Mothers were pioneers of the inner life. Compelled into the sile
nce of the desert in order to live more for God and to explore the nature
of prayer and what it means to be human\, they battled with their demons\,
nurtured inner stillness and yearned for purity of heart. Many were formi
dable human beings and what they became in the desert forms a deeply signi
ficant part of our Christian heritage. Following Christ’s journey into t
he wilderness\, their spirituality has had a huge influence on Christianit
 y.
 Cost 30 euros. 10am coffee\, the 10.30am start\, finish at 4pm.
 Ma
 ss at 12pm.

 Tuesday 31st August: WALKING WITH MARY… | Mary\, you
stood your ground\, you walked single-minded along that sapphire-path. Ba
refoot\, you walked on\, steel-blue metal in your eyes. You. Bearer of God
\, full of your own light… We will explore Scripture\, pray through the
imagination\, contemplate a sculpture\, a painting and an icon in order to
go deeper on our journeys with Mary.
